Toilet Paper Dispenser

Materials needed

Aprox. 3 feet of 6" wide, 5/8" thick Walnut hardwood.

7" x 6 " x 1/8" plywood

1 spring loaded tissue roller

Wood glue

Instructions

Cut 2 pieces of walnut wood to size 6-1/4"x 6-3/4" for the front and back. (for tissue roll that is 4-1/2" wide and 5" in diameter.)

Cut 2 more pieces 7" x 6-3/4" for the sides.

Using a dovetail jig and a mini dovetail bit create the dovetail joints along all four sides.

Using your table saw and a dado blade cut a groove 1/8" along the bottom of the front and both side pieces for bottom to slide on.  The groove should be made so it's aprox 3/16" from the bottom.

Cut the back piece down to allow the 1/8" plywood bottom to slide past it.

Cut a 4-3/4" slot for the tissue roll to dispense through.   This slot can be precision cut by first drilling the ends of the slot with a 3/8" drill bit then using your router and jig to finish the slot.  If you do not have a dado template handy you can use a block of wood to rest the router against or a sabre saw to finish the slot.

Test fit the four sides to make sure then fit even and snug.

Measure the center of the left and right sides and then using a drill press, drill a 5/8" hole on the inside of the left and right pieces to hold the tissue roller bar in place.  Be careful not to drill all the way through, a drill press is recommended to prevent this from happening.

Glue your four sides together making sure the box is square.

Measure and cut 1/8" plywood to size, plywood should slide easily from the back of the box without obtrusion.

Sand top of box so that it is square and all four edges are even.

Cut and glue a 5/8" thick piece of Walnut hardwood to top of box, clamp securely with glue clamps and let dry.

Once glue dries, remove clamps and sand box square with belt sander,  also sand plywood bottom so that the edge that slides out is even with back of the box.

Using a drill press, drill a 1/2" diameter and 1/16" deep hole into the end of the plywood bottom for your finger to use as a pull for sliding.

Once box has been sanded square use your router to run a bead around the top.

Using a cupping bit, route the 4 four vertical edges so that your dovetails stand out.

Sand dispenser with 100 and then 220 grit to prepare it for finishing.

Finish with 3 coats of Clear coat Polyurethane sanding with 400 grit between coats.  Then use 0000 steel wood and bees wax to finish.  Apply felt pads on all four corners.

Install your Tissue roll on the roller and slide the cover closed and your done!
